The New Black Vanguard: Quil Lemons
When Brooklyn-based photographer Quil Lemons was growing up in South Philadelphia, he made a habit out of carrying around disposable cameras, shooting everything he saw. His work explores a range of topics, from queerness and masculinity, to Black femininity and the family photograph—but ultimately, he is interested in creating a record of his life and community. The New Black Vanguard: Dana Scruggs
Meet the self-taught image maker, whose high-contrast and intimate photographs have appeared in GQ, ESPN’s “Body” issue, and on the cover of Rolling Stone, among others. Her work focuses on the strength and vulnerability of the male form, and she has sought to bring visibility and opportunities to models and subjects who represent a broad range of skin tones. Wednesday Workshop: Still Life Drawing with Minna Gilligan
In this week's Wednesday Workshop, Melbourne artist Minna Gilligan returns to take you through a couple of drawing exercises using a still life composed of items from around your house. These drawing exercises are all about jumping in and having fun with the drawing process, so get amongst it and share your still life drawings with us on your socials, tagging @bunjil_place and using the #ArtsInIsolation hashtag.
Kids Activity: Making Paper Houses
The kids are spending so much time in the house, so why not make one right? Follow along as we show you how to make the cutest little house with just one sheet of A4 paper (and some texters for decorating). This was one of our most popular kids activities during the Home/Land Project Another Country exhibitionin the Gallery. The New Black Vanguard: Micaiah Carter
“Two things that inspired me within my work...have been my family and my family legacy,” explains fashion photographer Micaiah Carter, whose central inspiration comes from his father, a retired Air Force Sergeant who came of age in the ‘70s, a period defined by the “Black is Beautiful” movement and disco. Join artist Kenny Pittock to transform your average shopping list into a hand-drawn masterpiece. Gravity & Other Myths were ready to present Backbone at Bunjil Place in May but (for obvious reasons) we needed to reschedule the show. Lucky for us they've sent through this awesome handstand tutorial to help get us moving at home!
