On a hot summer’s day in 1965, Merle Thornton and Rosalie Bogner walked into the public bar of the Regatta Hotel in Brisbane, calmly chained themselves to the bar rail, and ordered a beer. What happened next would change the course of Australian history - and a little less obviously - the course of music in Australia for women, forever.

Join award-winning cabaret powerhouses Michaela Burger and Libby O’Donovan, in a rollicking, raucous celebration of songs and stories from 1960s Australia. Hear the likes of Lynne Randell, Little Patti, Judy Stone, Marcie Jones, Margret Roadknight, Wendy Saddington, and Alison McCallum, in an uplifting and nostalgic hour that pays homage to the women who blazed the trails for generations to come. Through history, heart, and hilarity, they bring these incredible women - and their music - out of the sidelines, and into their rightful place in Aussie music history!

Described by Kate Ceberano as 'an asset to the cabaret community”, Michaela Burger is the recipient of the Frank Ford award 2019, Best Cabaret Adelaide Fringe 2019 weekly, Best Cabaret Adelaide Fringe 2016 and has been nominated for two Helpmann Academy Awards for Best Cabaret Performer.

Burger is the co-writer and star of the successful stage show Exposing Edith. Her recent award-winning cabaret, A migrant’s Son - which explores Greek migration to Australia - has received critical acclaim and features original songs written by Burger. She has performed with one of Broadway’s most sophisticated writers, Jason Robert Brown, and has shared the stage with Australia’s own Tina Arena and Meow Meow.

Libby O’Donovan is a “powerful and sassy performer” (SMH), renowned for her nuanced interpretations and extraordinary voice. She is a critically acclaimed Jazz and Cabaret performer and an award-winning Musical Director.

Libby has entertained audiences world-over with her unique talents, performing in New York, Tokyo and Toronto as well as Australia-wide. Equally at home in small ensemble acts as well as solo performances, she has been a proud member of ARIA nominated Coco’s Lunch, Flat on Your Bacharach, and Women With Standards, for which she won a Green Room Award for Musical Direction, and the Helpmann Award nominated The Cowgirl and The Showgirl with Australian country music stalwart, Beccy Cole.

Presented by Amplified Assembly.
