Monash Advanced Media Portfolio Films
This program is a selection of short films created by 3rd-year students in the Bachelor of Media Communication degree at Monash University. Selected from projects created in 2025 for a subject titled Advanced Media Portfolio, these audio-visual projects respond to an open brief in which students can create a major media work for their portfolio at the end of their degree. Reflecting a diversity of experiences and cultures expressed in both fictional and non-fiction formats, these projects range from documentaries on the ritual of Chinese tea, to video essays analysing the malaise of the attention economy, to a fiction film about the perils of being constantly contactable.

Every cup of tea holds a story waiting to be told. Brewing Stories is a documentary that follows international student Yufei through her tea parties in Melbourne, telling the story of how she blends tradition with creativity to reimagine the charm of Chinese tea for the new generation. Through each gathering, tea becomes more than just a drink; it becomes a way to connect hearts, cultures, and stories.

Trapped
Meagan Lam (2025)

No Signal
Linjia Chi & Zheming Lai (2025)
An international student’s only connection to home “a ringing phone” slowly becomes both her lifeline and her greatest source of anxiety.
Resonance: Classical Music In The Modern World
Han Soo Yoo, Tom Williams, Ricardo Jansen Correa (2025)
Is studying classical music relevant today?
Lai Lai, Khi Khi
Yeoh Fang Yu (2025)
Lai Lai, Khi Khi is a short personal essay film that reflects on a daughter’s memories of her mother, Eng Lai Lai. It traces the simplest yet most touching stories of the mother and the meanings she held for her family. Told through a non-linear structure and the daughter’s voice-over, the film pieces together fragments of memories shared by her and her father, as she searches for an understanding of life and death.
Day in Life
Qizheng Mi (2025)
Day in Life turns a mundane shift in a Melbourne warehouse into an intimate lens on global movement and invisible labour. Filmed entirely from the worker’s perspective, the project transforms routine logistics into a sensory experience, where noise, rhythm and repetition reveal the human pulse behind Australia’s supply chain.
The Life
Duc Manh Nguyen (2025)
The Life follows a 21-year-old student trapped in routine until a fleeting reflection reveals her true self. In this silent docu-fiction, the mundane becomes a mirror, awakening her to the need for self-love and authenticity amid modern life's monotony.
