In Bad Guys 2 the felonious critters are back for one last caper – and this time, they’re doing it for the girls. The President's Cake

Friday 17 April, 6.30pm
The President's Cake (M)
Returning to the site of his childhood experiences in Iraq, writer/director Hasan Hadi delivers a distinctive debut feature. Telling a timely tale of life under a dictatorship as seen through the eyes of a child, Hadi’s film draws from neighbouring Iran’s cinematic tradition of symbolic stories led by young protagonists.
Arriving direct from Cannes, where it premiered in the Directors’ Fortnight, The President’s Cake marks the arrival of an impressive new voice.

But Also John Clarke

Saturday 18 April, 4.30pm
But Also John Clarke (M)
When satirist John Clarke died in 2017, the world mourned an icon. A defining comedic voice who wrote and appeared in numerous films and TV productions, and who – in a beloved double act with Bryan Dawe – skewered political hypocrisy for almost 30 years on current affairs shows, he gave away very little about his own life.
At home, by contrast, he was an open book. In a remarkable series of recorded conversations between John and his daughter, writer/director Lorin Clarke, he traces his steadfast resistance to authority back to his childhood and offers delightful insights into his four decades in the entertainment industry.

Journey Home, David Gulpilil (M)
After his passing, legendary Yolngu actor David Gulpilil is brought back to his home country in a continent-traversing commemoration worthy of his transcendent talent.
