Art At Home
Keep the creativity going and try making your own work of art inspired by the artworks of Jennifer Mills. Here are a few activities to try at home:
Family of Freaks
The theme of family sometimes features in Jennifer’s artworks – her son Darcy collaborates on artworks by adding his own drawings, and her son Patrick has created the soundscape for In the echo chamber.
Choose your favourite art materials and create an artwork about your family. Perhaps the artwork could be a drawing by you and another family member.
How would you show the personalities of each family member? Are there special things or phrases that your family loves? How could these be incorporated into an artwork?
Number one fan
Lyrics from music, characters and stories from books, TV shows and movies find their way into Jennifer’s artworks. Do you have a favourite book, TV show, movie, musician or band? Think about why it is your favourite.
Create an artwork that reflects your love for your favourite story, song, movie character or celebrity. This could be through adding text or imagery that represents how it makes you feel.
Self portrait
Over 30 years of her career, Jennifer has created many self-portraits, sometimes incorporating animals and other people into the artwork.
Create your own self-portrait using collage techniques and materials such as magazines, flyers and even junk mail. Think about which aspects of your life and personality you will show in the portrait, and which parts will you leave out.
