Panellists

Ngino Amum

Ngino is a queer black disabled woman who is located within the southeast who is an artist that incorporates her intersections to break down the stereotypes. Ngino expresses herself through different mediums such as drawing, painting and tie-dye.

Sam Kariotis

My work 'Sideways Sacrament: Remastered,' encapsulates my lived experience with both my transmasculine identity and my relationship with faith (specifically Christianity) represented and expressed through objects. The work was created in the duration of my Honours year of my BA Fine Art and is site-specific. This means that the fabric and objects can travel from space to space and change their meaning based on their surroundings.

You can find more from Sam on their Instagram.

Dean Adams

Dean Adams is a Melbourne based artist who is versatile in various mediums such as; ball-point pen, oil and acrylic paint, digital art and makeup. His pieces contain a realistic technique that incorporate some fantasy and romanticised elements. Dean expresses his love for the positivity of life and the beauty all around him through his body of work. He draws mainly from what he observes, also playing with the idea of making fantasies a reality.

Dean also draws inspiration from fairy tales, fantasy films, pop culture and his night life as a drag entertainer. He has a keen interest for the magical and mystical. Characters such as Cinderella and Ariel from ‘The Little Mermaid’ have cemented his belief in positivity and his curiosity of the colourful and beautiful lights of the city he lives in.

Dean’s technical focus is mostly on realism, relying on a traditional style of painting and drawing. His aesthetic attempts to adapt depending on certain mediums that bring together a realist style while preserving bright colours and bold tones.

You can find more from Dean on his Instagram. and facebook.

TagaBarrio

TagaBarrio (pronounced as "Ta-ga Bar-yo") which translates to "from a small village or small section of a town, that is usually in poverty" in both Filipino and Spanish languages. They are a queer Filipino immigrant artist who has been residing and creating work in the land of the Kulin Nation for about 10 years now. As a multi-disciplinary artist, they pride themselves on creating works in the following art Forms; Illustration, Mixed Media, Painting, Printing, Sculpting, Photography, and Spoken Word Poetry. Their works revolves around the themes of Identity, Belonging, Post-Colonialism, Sex, and Sexuality (being queer and working in an adult shop gave me a unique perspective), and also from my own culture, beliefs, and experiences.
