Celebrating Me: Online art workshop – Poetry Writing

In this week's workshop, multi-disciplinary artist Chichi Nwokocha (Cheech) will guide you in how to start finding your own voice and take up space. Start writing your own poetry and get pen to paper. Curate your own personal arts practice and play with ways of delivering your poetic work! 

This workshop is broken into various parts including: Word Games and triggers, Call and Response, Music Inspired Writing and Provocations. You are invited into Cheech’s safe place to be heard, share and be inspired. 

For this workshop, you will need: 

  • Pen (different colours if they would like ), paper and post-it-notes. 
  • Google the year you were born or have a look on Wikipedia and find an event that stands out or interests you.  

Pre-prepared ahead of session: 

  • Pick a song/video from Youtube or similar. Please send a link to the song or name of the artist/video to [email protected] with the subject line Celebrating Me: Poetry workshop 

About your teaching artist – Chichi Nwokocha 
Chichi Nwokocha (aka Cheech) is a Nigerian British Writer, actor and producer. Growing up immersed in the arts, spending summers at the National Youth Theatre and Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts. In London, she produced and assisted on several events at Jackson Lane, Pleasance and Theatre Royal Stratford East, including an evening with Wole Soyinka.  

Since moving to Australia, Chichi has thrown herself into arts opportunities, working with Red Stitch Actors’ Theatre, Theatre Works, and produced Ararat Youth Hip Hop Festival. A featured artist in TAKEBACK, presented by MAV in collaboration with Darebin FUSE Festival.  

Most recently Cheech has been facilitating poetry writing workshops for Connection Arts Space and can be seen in The People of Cabaret’s, We Are Here digital Fringe show.
