Runway Models Needed - Open Call

Bunjil Place Gallery is working with Indian-born Australian artist David Sequeira to present a runway show as part of his exhibition All the things I should have said that I never said.

David has designed a suite of 56 kurtas (long loose collarless shirts worn in many regions of South Asia including India) that combines block colours and photographic images associated with India’s past. Collectively these kurtas form a personal history of India and address the notion of ‘embodied history’, the kurtas will be shown in a spectacular runway performance at the opening of the exhibition before becoming part of the gallery installation.

The runway performance will feature music performed by Veena virtuoso and composer Hari Sivanesan from his latest album Sarasvati, produced in collaboration with Amin Payne.

THIS IS WHERE YOU COME IN

David is calling upon the local male Indian community to help out. He is looking for 56, size small to medium, male volunteers of Indian descent.  Volunteers aged 18+ are welcome to participate. All participants will receive a gift voucher for their time.

This project will enable great conversations between participants who have a connection to the project themes and ideas, including the opportunity for intergenerational knowledge exchange between David and participating volunteers. Intersectionality, particularly around race, gender identity and nationality are an important aspect of the project.

Details of participant time commitments are below:

  • Fittings: Friday 29 April, 6.00 – 8.00 pm or Sat 30 April, 10.00am – 12.00pm (attendance at one fitting only).
  • Rehearsal: Sat 7 May, 1.00 – 4.00pm
  • Runway show: Sat 7 May, 5.30 – 8.00pm

Fittings, rehearsal and performance will be held at Bunjil Place - 2 Patrick Northeast Drive, Narre Warren VIC.

All models are required to provide their own black, lace up shoes. Black pants will be provided.  No hair styling or make-up is required, but if you would like to do your own hair and make up you are most welcome.
